Inorganic arsenic species in groundwater: A case study from Purbasthali (Burdwan), India
1996
A regional groundwater quality survey from 20 tube wells in the Purbasthali area of the Burdwan district of West Bengal province (India) identified arsenic pollution in this area. Arsenic was detected in 19 cases at a concentration level 0.5 to 135.9 micrograms/L. Speciation studies indicate that As(III) is present in only one sample and organo-arsenic compounds have not been detected. Iron, antimony and pH of such water samples were also studied to see if there is any correlation of the presence of arsenic and these parameters. A high concentration of iron (0.3 to 10.7 mg/L) has been detected. Antimony is present in all these water samples (0.03 to 0.9 microgram/L). The pH value of the gro…
Three-Dimensional Calibration for Routine Analyses of Bromide and Nitrate Ions as Indicators of Groundwater Quality in Coastal Territories
2019
Nitrate and bromide ions are generally considered indicators of anthropogenic pollution and seawater intrusion, respectively, in the groundwater of coastal territories. The analysis of these species is generally carried out with routine chromatographic analyses which generally afford partially merged or poorly resolved peaks. In the present paper a simple method for the correct evaluation of their concentration in water is reported. This method does not imply utilization of other instruments or technologies, only the mathematical elaboration of the data obtained from routine analysis of standard solutions containing the two species. Standard binary solutions of nitrate and bromide ions at d…
Groundwater Safety by Monitoring Quality Parameters in Transylvania, Romania
2021
This chapter presents the safety of groundwater in Transylvania, Romania by monitoring quality parameters. At first, presents the aspects regarding the importance of groundwater for humankind, the underground water being regarded as a natural, untreated and free source. Drinking water is used in human food that meets a number of physicochemical and microbiological conditions that allow consumption without endangering health. The case study is carried out in a Romanian region (Alba County—Transylvania), the main appreciation indicators of the underground water sources quality being monitored over time. Concentration/pollution levels were determined by physicochemical and microbiological anal…
Chemical-physical parameters, major, minor and trace elements compositions of big karst springs of Greece
2023
This database consists of samples of karst springs collected in Greece and selected on the base of their water flow (> 50 L s-1), over the period from May 2016 to October 2022
